Definitive Coffee Co.

Our Story: From Grind to Greatness

It began with a cup. A simple, yet profound moment. Amidst the chaos of working countless odd jobs and bending over backwards for others just to be building someone’s else’s dream, one constant source of solace emerged: coffee. It’s rich aroma, it’s bold flavor and it’s ability to awaken the senses offered a brief respite from the monotony.

For Trenton, coffee was more than just a beverage; it was a spark, an ignition point. A realization dawned that true satisfaction wasn’t found in the endless pursuit of the next job, but in cultivating a passion. With a heart brimming with hope and hands eager to create, he embarked on a journey to transform that simple cup into something extraordinary, and our loyal customers are a testament to that dream.

“I had worked a lot of odd jobs but always knew I wanted to own my own business. Coffee was the one thing I relied on every morning to get me through the day, no matter what job I was working. The problem was that anytime I would go to a local coffee shop or one of those big chain coffee stores, the taste of coffee would be masked by all this sugar and flavored syrup which is just kind of gross to me. I understand that’s the world we live in but I’m old fashioned when it comes to coffee. I’ve even traveled to various parts of Europe and expected the coffee to be amazing but was surprisingly let down. It’s a little biased but I just thought that what I was roasting at home was better and wanted to share it with other people.” – Trenton Hunt (Owner)

Crafted in the Heart of Idaho

Founded on the fertile grounds of Middleton, Idaho, Definitive Coffee Co. is more than just a roastery; we’re a passion project dedicated to crafting coffee experiences that are as rich and satisfying as the landscapes that surround us. Our beans are carefully sourced, roasted to perfection, and packed with love to bring you a cup that truly defines your day.

Where Do We Source Our Beans?

Depending on the type of coffee and time of year, many of our beans originate from all parts of the world. We keep the name of each bean exactly how it is so that it’s easier to differentiate between the regions and plantations.

We source our beans from only trusted plantations who have good standing values, long term experience and a history of feedback from real people on their beans so that we can pass the excellent products along.

But not just any beans will do; we carefully select them based on key factors such as: type of bean, cupping score, flavor profile and public feedback after roasting so that we may offer a great product created from the finest coffee beans available. We also do not source any beans until they’re in season. While it can be a pain waiting for your favorite coffee to be in stock, it’s important that everything is harvested at the right time to preserve quality.

The Magic of Fluid Bed Coffee Roasting

Coffee lovers often appreciate the complex flavors and aromas that a perfectly roasted bean can deliver. While traditional drum roasters have been the industry standard for years, a newer method is gaining traction: fluid bed roasting. This innovative process offers several advantages that contribute to a superior cup of coffee.

The benefits of fluid bed roasting:

-Superior consistency. The uniform heat transfer in fluid bed roasting leads to exceptional consistency in bean color, development, and flavor. This means every cup tastes remarkably similar, without the variations often found in drum-roasted coffee.

-Preserved flavor. The rapid roasting process in fluid bed roasters helps to preserve delicate flavor compounds. This results in a coffee with brighter acidity, more complex aroma, and a cleaner taste profile.

-Efficiency. Fluid bed roasters are highly efficient, requiring less energy and time compared to drum roasters. This translates to lower operating costs and a smaller environmental footprint.

-Improved quality control. The precise control over temperature and airflow in fluid bed roasting allows for better quality control. This means roasters can achieve desired flavor profiles with greater accuracy.
